Chivalry Is Dead

Is chivalry gone with the wind?!!! It seems like a lot of men have forgotten how to treat a lady. For example, while traveling in NYC my friends and I were banged on by a guy that cut us off as we were entering a restaurant. I opened the door to enter as he was walking toward the exit. As a result he grabbed the door and allowed the people following to proceed in. Next thing I know dude is going off, "Damn you can't say thank you?!!"

I thought to myself, "fool, I opened the door for myself." Another guy was getting really aggressive with my friend. I guess he was feeling her swag, however there are better ways to show that you are attracted/interested in a person rather than grabbing and pulling at them. I couldn't believe the type of treatment we were receiving. And East Coast Men are supposed to be more refined, as if!

Ladies don't get down on yourself, there are still some good men out there. The other day I struggled with two hands full of grocery trying to make it to my apartment without making a second trip to the car. All the while I was praying that nothing dropped or spilled out of my hand when one of the maintenance workers in my apartment offered a helping hand. the maintenance guys are very nice and typically offer assistance whenever they see me carrying anything. Normally I decline, but this time I had to take them up on the offer and it brought a smile to my face to know that men still know a woman's worth.

Travel & Leisure

I recently took a trip to New York, The Empire State to celebrate a friends birthday! Its amazing how different things are on the east coast. I had a blast and enjoyed myself on the mini vaca for the most part. My travel buddies and I experienced a few bumps in the road with scheduling and getting lost in the city where dreams are made of.

As a result of limited time and other factors we were not able to participate in all the activities that were originally planned. This got me to thinking, how can you travel with others and appease everyone at the same time staying on schedule with a small amount of time. Or would it be better to roll solo?

I traveled to Cancun, Mexico a few years ago and had a ball! I had an itinerary of activities and really immersed myself in the culture. I suppose this can be done in a group which is better for travel especially in a foreign country. So ladies and gents, the next time you are planning a get away with friends I suggest you come up with an itinerary for activities that everyone can agree with and a strict schedule that must be kept!!!

Leave me a comment letting me know your thoughts on group travel when working with a limited amount of time.

The Bluest Eye

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and only goes skin deep. Nonetheless, different societies have different standards of beauty. For instance in Iran the perfect nose is an ideal one, in parts of Africa fat is considered pleasing to the eye. However for some beauty becomes an obsession! Americans obsess over being thin and "perfect" through having multiple plastic surgeries.

In Southeast Asia fair skin is associated with wealth, beauty and social status. This also appears to be true in many black communities as well. It reminds me of author Tony Morrison's book, The Bluest Eye. The novel highlights a young girls life in 1941 and her upbringing in a poor black family.

Pecola and the Breedloves see themselves as ugly because they have dark-skin and "nappy" hair. As a result of their low self image they are perceived as ugly by others. As the story progresses Pecola becomes intrigued by Maureen Peel a pretty "high-yellow girl" that everyone from teachers to the boys are smitten by. In the book, Pecola and others place a high emphasis and praise on having fair skin.

Self image is a very strong factor in others perception of beauty. Although society places high standards on image/beauty its important to know who you are and to stay true to your self at all times.

The Dating Scene

Single Ladies in 2010!

I am a single lady in the dating game, however I had to take some time off for myself. While dating I encountred several men that were unsure on what they wanted because they would play games and date multiple women at the same time. This behavior lead to a lot of uncessarry drama that could have been avoided if people were honest with themselves first; as well as with one another. I feel that in this stage of my life I am too old for games and men that are unavailable.

I'm More Than Just An Option!!!

I was recently approached, typically I would brush him off; I don't take kindly to bad pick-up lines.
However this time I entertained the thought of getting to know this person. My schedule  is always super busy and my personal time is very valuable! I exchanged numbers with this person because he appeared to be a gentlemen and I was feeling his swag.

Our first conversation started off on a good note. Of course I didn't get a call on the first day I provided him with my number; not sure if this is another game men play hm! During the conversation it was asked, "Why are you single?" I simply explained that I don't have time for games and men who like to date multiple women at the same time. This guy replies, "Are you not confident in yourself that you know you are the one even though a guy dates other women?" HUH?!!  Pump the breaks...

Refuse to be forgotten!!!

So, is this what single ladies have to look forward to in the 2010 Dating Game?! If so, I'm good!! I low-key (lol, sometimes I wonder why people use this phrase but it fit with my mood for lack of a better term) wanted to end the conversation at that moment.

All my single Ladies, what is a girl to do?...

Is this what one should expect as a single lady in the 2010 dating game

I don't think so! Leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts on the matter.

Until next time...

Follow the Leader

I've always been curious to discover why people do the things that they do? What drives ones' thoughts and actions? Why do some people dislike others they don't know or take an opportunity to get to know. Many people make judgements about others based on perceptions.

The human brain is very complex as is the individual. I've come to the realization that some things are not meant to be understood and not everyone will like you and there is absolutely nothing that can be done about it. "Hahahahaha," I laugh in the enemies face because this joy that I have the world did not give it and the world cant take it away!

His light forever shines through me!

It all falls down...

Wax on Wax off

So I had Saturday off for the first time in a long time which was quite a treat at the end of a long week! Earlier in the week a friend and I were discussing waxing vs. shaving. Now she has been getting waxed faithfully for the past year. I've tried waxing before however, it was a bit intrusive for me if you know what I mean, lol. Nonetheless, I let this friend of mine talk me into trying waxing again; I also scheduled a facial!
Now Rubinia is an Indian woman that started waxing as a hobby and she was so great at it that people continued to go back and refer friends and family. Just like my prior experiences waxing was very foward. I am pleased with the end results for now. I was thinking of purchasing a wax kit and doing it myself at home, but I don't want an episode of Kourtney & Khloe take Miami with a nasty burn. Maybe I'll start with my underarms. So ladies, what is your preference? Do you wax or shave?...

I hope I wasn't too foward in this post! However, I let you know in the beginning that this is my journey of beauty, fashion and health.

Wax off for now...

Free at Last!!!

Let Freedom Ring! Happy Independence Day...

I am grateful to be an American and Christian!! The freedom to make your own decisions and choices in life is a great feeling that not all experience. Yesterday's sermon was about Freedom, the theme was I got to be free!

~ Galations 5:1 ~ Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

You must acknowledge God in all of your ways - head the warning.

what I wore : Vintage dress found at a boutique in LA; Pearl necklace found at my favorite boutique, Nobody Jones in LA, Pearl bracelet forever 21; Pumps Candies from Kohl's; DKNY Gold Watch; Shades stopped by Payless (yes, Payless to pick up some shades)

After stopping by Payless to pick up some new shades I asked the sales person assisting me to take a picture of me for my blog, LOL! She was cool enough to do so. I hope she drops by to check out my page. This blogging thing is great and very addicting, thanks http://www.fashiondujourdaily.blogspot.com/ for putting me up on game!!!

I Love being off on Sunday's!!!

This look was inspired by http://www.lovemaegan.com/
I took an old bracelet from Forever 21 and turned it into an anklet. A lot of people thought it was a part of my shoe. It was a really fun accessory to work with!

I must break free from this bondage!!!

Don't Let Your Freedom Get the Best of You!

4th of July Nail Inspiration

Hello All!!! Here is another DIY nail art design inspired by the 4th of July. I was in a festive sort of mood, LOL!

Delusion & Burnout

Sigh... Day Dreaming of a new beginning!!!

So it happened to me again, grrrr!!! I had another mishap with my work schedule. Somehow when I reviewed the schedule I thought I was scheduled to close today or at least that is what my eyes saw and what my brain wanted to believe. Nonetheless, when I looked at my phone to review the daily goals for today I saw that I was scheduled to open (screams out loud!!!).

I had to haul but to the bathroom and make for a speedy getaway! I didn’t have a chance to play with my puppy, Jackson or to post my Independence Day Blog; I guess it will come later today. I absolutely hate running late and making simple mistakes. It is what it is. I suppose I should start making a copy of my schedule to avoid these mistakes.

Balance – Life & Work!!!

An age old question, how can I find a healthy and attainable balance in life? I am still searching for the answer. Do any of you have a clue?!!!
This is the time of year that many of us have vowed to eat better, exercise more, stress less and get a better nights sleep. This hasn’t really worked for me thus far. I am incorporating healthy living into my daily routine; however it is very difficult to stay consistent, especially with exercise, SMH.
For the most part I prepare my meals daily and I do my best to eat the recommended 3-5 servings of fruits and veggies. Nonetheless, I am a sucker for junk food. I love, love, love chocolate, sweets, chips and an occasional glass of wine. I suppose it is safe to delight in those favorites every now and then as long as it is in moderation LOL ;D
Lately I have been paying a lot of extra attention to my calorie intake and the items that I’m eating, however I feel deprived many times. I am getting use to not eating a lot of the things that I have eliminated from my diet, for instance, bread and skittles.
My new resolution is to reduce the amount of pressure that I place on myself and to embrace my body the way that it is. In regards to long- term health, balance is crucial! What is your 2010 resolution? Leave a comment and let me know, and tell me about your struggles.
